What’s a mat and why do I need one?Matboard is a heavy-based paper material that’s used in framing to separate your artwork / photo / etc. from the glass. In addition to providing a protective element, it also helps give your piece a polished look! You can keep it minimal and simple by going with a neutral colored mat, or we can match your piece to our range of colors and textures to compliment its color palette! Most of the time, we use an Acid-Free mat option, which helps protect your piece from deteriorating over time. Regular mats will “burn” paper and prints and create a discolored ring on the piece.

What is Moulding? Where does yours come from?Moulding is the material used to make the actual frame. Typically made of wood, metal, pressed wood, or Poly. We proudly source our moulding materials from International Moulding, a Columbus-based company who produces high-quality material.

Why is custom framing so expensive? We get asked (or just a deer-in-headlights look) all the time why custom framing costs so much. Especially when the piece being framed didn’t cost nearly as much! Well, there’s a lot that goes into framing your piece. Not only does framing take professional skill and high quality materials to produce, it also helps protect your piece! Lots of time and care goes into making sure your piece is something that can be displayed and loved for a long time. That being said, there are definitely ways for you to cut costs when having a piece framed! Going with a regular glass option as well as a lower cost-per-foot moulding will help. Feel free to ask us what your options are and we’ll be more than happy to help!

What are my glass options?Regular : Our regular glass is our basic (best budget-friendly!) glass option. It does provide a bit of UV protection. However, if you have artwork that needs a little more protection, we do suggest you go with glass that has a higher UV protection percentage. UV : Also called “Conservation Clear,” this glass option protects your framed piece by adding a 99% UV blocking layer. Plexi Glass AR : AR Glass is just a step beneath Museum Glass - it looks very similar, but costs you a little less! AR Glass is optically coated for a virtually invisible, reflection-free finish and has 78% UV protection. We suggest going with this option if you would like your framed piece to Museum : Museum Glass is the highest quality glass we offer. It has a beautiful, virtually reflection-free (less than 1% light reflection!) appearance. Additionally, it has 99% UV-Blocking, with over 97% Light transmission, to keep your framed piece from fading.

I have a cross stitch I would like framed. Can you do that?We can! What we do is stretch your cross stitch onto a piece foam core using pins to hold everything in place. So, please make sure to leave at least two inches of cloth around all sides of your cross stitch! That helps us make the finished product look best for you.

I have zero idea how I want to frame something and don't know where to start. Help?We get it, knowing where to start with framing can be overwhelming! Especially when you know you’re going to have this piece on display for a long time. If you can, be sure to take a little time to look at the space where the frame will be hung. What colors, patterns, and textures are in the room? Do you want to go minimal or bold? What size will you need? Those are great places to start! We’ve even had customers bring in paint chips to match their mat and frame to the wall color. If you’re still stuck, no worries! We’re here to help. We’ll work with you to narrow down the style and colors that highlight your piece in a personal way.
